Yesterday we had the first (at least that I'm aware of) server-wide player-created contest. Snorlax_slayer spent weeks creating an obstacle course, complete with nearly impossible jumps, button pushing, and mazes, and at ~11 am yesterday he held the first competition. And now, the winners:
1. Runecraft. Yeah, it's back. As before there are several runes that have been disabled. Faith, Topsy Turvy, Magic Beacon, Solar Flare, Pyrokinesis, Fire Sword, Admin Pick, Waypoint, Teleporter, and Compass have all been banned as either dangerous or redundant. If you have no idea what Runecraft is, look here.
You may have noticed that the world has been reverted. It's been a very long time since we've had an issue so massive that only a revert could fix it. Unfortunately, the world dir somehow became corrupted around 7 am MDT this morning, which caused the read time outs and end of stream errors. No one could log in, not even me. The only solution for the problem was to roll back the server. To further compound the issue, the last backup we had from before the issue was inexplicably all the way back into last week.
We haven't updated the server yet. I know it's troublesome for several of you, but we have chosen to avoid Griefmas by waiting until Bukkit, WorldGuard, and LWC get updated for the past few updates. This is not something new that we tried, and my advice has ALWAYS been to NEVER click the "Yes" button for updates until you KNOW FOR SURE 100% that the server has been updated. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS click "Not now" and try to log in to the server FIRST. Then if you get an outdated client error, that is when you update. You can also check here.
So, first things first, for some reason the internet to my apt went down earlier this morning (like, early early). Sorry about that. I did everything I could, then went to bed. I'm happy to see that it's back up now.
We got a bit more RAM, putting us at 8 GB, the most the current motherboard can handle. Hopefully this will cut down on crashes and lag.
I also got rid of the Nether. The nether is saved on the HDD, but the in-game secondary world has been replaced by a resource world. Since it doesn't use the existing portals the only one that functions is the one two floors down at spawn. We'll be discussing permissions and posting tutorials later if necessary, but for now only the staff can create portals to the resource world.
