Notch updated, we haven't. I will not personally be updating the server for at least a few days (although dflemstr may decide to do it himself) because I have papers and finals to write, and I just don't have the time otherwise. For all of you who immediately updated to 1.5, STOP DOING THAT! Never ever ever ever never update UNTIL YOU HAVE CONFIRMED THE SERVER DID! How will you know? 1) I'll post here when we update the server and 2) You'll get the same error now for not updating.

So tonight we had a strange occurrance. Someone stumbled into our server, looking for meincraft.com and dazed and confused as to how he ended up here. As it turns out, another server host has temporarily moved their operations into my apartment complex and tried to set up shop. Oh noes!

It has been a very long time since I've held a community game. I felt very inspired Friday after a long harsh day on the server. It was time for some positivity! I must say this event had the best turnout for players participating but the worst motivated it seemed. But maybe now that some of the novices are familiar with the game, we'll have a more successful one in the future!

With almost twice the votes of option 1 or 3, the server has spoken! We will update to 1.4 and have Griefmas starting at approximately 1:30 PM, MDT (GMT -7).
For all of you who have not updated your client, now is the time to prepare!
TO THE BREACH!

In the past, whenever Notch pushed an update for MC, servers had to update in order to match the client in order for users to connect. As updates break server mods, that meant we lost all anti-grief protections. Rather than shut down the server, we usually turned the periods between MC updates and Mod updates into massive griefing holidays where we went to town on the map and each other in horrible hedonistic displays of destruction.

Somehow the groups file got corrupted, perhaps from a bad server shutdown. In any case, people who were recently promoted became "demoted." So, if you've recently lost a rank, don't worry about it. Mention it to a mod when you see one.

I added a TeamSpeak server to the...uh...server. It's running on the standard port 9987. Connect, chat, keep the language clean.

Or at least it appears to be. WorldGuard seems to be protecting things, as is LWC. We've updated everything possible to the latest versions. We're getting backups so there shouldn't be any more rollbacks. Hopefully we won't have any more griefing problems. We should (*should) be stable.
That said, there are some minor glitches, mostly with teleports and warps etc. Nothing that seriously affects gameplay.

With the new update, WorldGuard no longer guards the world as it should. Protected areas are safe from building, but not griefing. I logged on to find roads torn up and some buildings around spawn defaced.
Hence, it is with regret that I felt it necessary to TEMPORARILY institute build right for all new players. The group Temp is unable to build on the map. Unfortunately, with the way that Permissions works, it means that people who rightly belong in the Novice group (i.e. people who have been on the server for several days) are automatically sorted into the Temp group.
